The female of the parasitoid was receptive soon after emergence. The mating was of typical braconid type and was accomplished in 30 to 35 seconds. The female oviposited on the same day of emergence and the parasitoid took 3 to 15 seconds for oviposition, with an average of 5.82 +- 2.61 seconds. A female parasitoid laid up to 50 eggs in the body cavity of a single host larva. During August-September, the incubation period of the egg was completed in 84 to 90 h after oviposition. Within 14.5 days (14.49 +- 3.85; range 12 to 23 days, n: 258), the final instar larva of the parasitoid came out of the host by cutting the body wall of the host with its mandibles. The pupal period was completed in 4.61 +- 0.7 days (n : 132). The total developmental period of G. obliquae from egg to adult emergence was completed in 19.1 +- 4.9 days (n : 104) with a range from 14 to 28 days (temp. min. 25 +- 0.4 degree C; max. 30 +- 0.5 degree C, R.H. 70%). At low temperature of 20 degree C with 40% R.H., the immature stages were completed in 27 +- 1.6 days. Laboratory studies showed Glyptapanteles obliquae as a potent parasitoid of P. ricini F.
