The contact and oral toxicity of field doses of selected pesticides against the cocoon and adult stages of a hymenopterous parasitoid Diadegma semiclausum were studied using several bioassays. Field rates of ten pesticides were selective to the parasitoid pupae. Fresh residue(s) of cartap, chlorfenapyr, emamectin benzoate and permethrin were highly toxic, causing 100% mortality of adult females in every treatment. Residual effects of these four insecticides on cabbage foliage showed that only cartap was highly persistent. Cartap residues caused 100% mortality for over 30 d. In the same assay three chitin synthesis inhibitors (chlorfluazuron, flufenoxuron and teflubenzuron) and one fungicide/bactericide (copper nonylphenol sulfonate) and two bactericides (kasugamycin and oxolinic acid) were nontoxic to adults. Effects of contact toxicity of chitin synthesis inhibitors and fungicides/bactericides on the untreated progeny of treated parents was also determined: there was no significant difference in parasitism rates between progeny of treated and untreated adults. When the field doses of these chemicals were fed orally, mortality of female parasitoids ranged from 0% to 17.23%. However, oral ingestion adversely affected the parasitism rate (p < 0.05) in all treatments except oxolinic acid. Selectivity of tested pesticides against D. semiclausum and integration of compatible pesticides with this parasitoid for IPM of cabbage are discussed. none
