comment:
Larvae of Anticarsia gemmatalis Hb. and Plusia spp. were collected from field plots of soyabeans in Parana, Brazil, and reared in the laboratory to determine the natural agents attacking them. Larvae of A. gemmatalis were infected by Nomuraea rileyi, Beauveria bassiana, Entomophthora sphaerosperma and by a nuclear polyhedrosis virus. The only parasite attacking this species was a species of Microcharops. Larvae of Plusia spp. were infected by N. rileyi, E. gammae and by a nuclear polyhdrosis virus. Parasites reared from Plusia larvae were Litomastix truncatella (Dalm.), Apanteles marginiventris (Cress.), Nemorilla ruficornis (Thoms.) and Lespesia sp. Nomuraea rileyi was the most important control agent, affecting 49% of Anticarsia and 33% of Plusia. It was most active during the vegetative growth stage of the crop. none
