Moths emerge in June, and eggs and larvae can be found from June onwards. The larvae form whitish-yellow coloured blotch mines in oak leaves and feed until the beginning of November. They hibernate in a silken, cocoon-like hibernaculum within the mine. Mine density was low throughout the study area, i.e. most sites showed less than 1% attack of leaves of pedunculate oak (Quercus robur). Two ichneumonids, Diadegma anurum (Campopleginae) and Scambus annulatus (Pimplinae), and 10 chalcidoid-wasp species (Eulophidae), were reared from host mines: Chrysocharis nautius (Entedontinae), a parasitoid of Tischeria species in Europe, and some common leaf-miner parasitoids, such as the polyphagous species Pnigalio agraules, Pnigalio longulus (Eulophinae), Cirrospilus diallus and Cirrospilus lyncus (Elachertinae).
