comment:
Phytophagous species and their natural enemies were sampled weekly in soyabean fields in Guaiba, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in the 1977-78 season. The application of insecticides caused resurgences in pest species and decreased the numbers of natural enemies. Yields were reduced by the action of plant bugs, especially Piezodorus guildinii (Westw.), Edessa meditabunda (F.) and Nezara viridula (L.). Populations of Elasmopalpus lignosellus (Zell.) were high, but the most abundant lepidopterous larvae were those of Plusia spp. and Anticarsia gemmatalis Hb. Natural enemies prevented some 50% of these larvae reaching the adult stage. The most frequently countered natural control agents were Nomuraea rileyi, Geocoris sp., Nabis sp., Lebia concinna Brulle, Chrysopa sp., Microcharops bimaculata (Ashm.), Litomastix truncatella (Dalm.), Patelloa rusti (Aldr.) and spiders. none
