comment:
In Florida the alfalfa weevil, Hypera postica (Gyllenhal) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is univoltine with its main activity restricted to the months February through May. The larval parasite, Bathyplectes curculionis (Thomson) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae), was discovered for the first time in Florida at Gainesville in June 1978. Parasitism of host larvae was 36% for the period 28 February to 7 June 1979, and 73% for the same period of 1980. The weevil population in 1980 was 19% of that present in 1979 and has continued at a low level through 1984. The parasite B. anurus (Thomson) apparently failed to become established at the release site at Gainesville. none
