comment:
The effect of transgenic Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) corn (Mon 8 10), transgenic corn hybrid stacked (NK603 x Mon 810) and non-Bt corn Roundup Ready (NK603) on the wet season population abundance of the coccinellid beetle, Micraspis discolor (Fabr.) and the larval-pupal parasitoid, Trichomma cnaphalocrosis Uchida was assessed in two sites in the Philippines: Namagbagab, Sta. Maria, Pangasinan in Luzon and Bolomata, Tupi, South Cotabato in Mindanao. The distribution Of the larval-pupal parasitoid was not significantly different among the corn types and treatments. The different transgenic crops do not seem to affect the initial Cues used by the parasitoid to locate the larval ACB (Asian corn borer) hosts. Similarly, the abundance of the coccinellid beetle among the different corn hybrids and treatments are not significantly different. Results indicate that the beetles move freely from one corn type to the other. Both natural enemies occurred in lower numbers in Tupi, South Cotabato, Mindanao than in Sta. Maria, Pangasinan, Luzon. none
