none Scathophaga stercoraria; HYMENOPTERAN-PARASITES; Phaenocarpa conspurcator; DUNG-HABITAT; ENGLAND-; Northumberland, Heddon-on-the-Wall; Records, cow dung Phaenocarpa conspurcator; DIPTERAN-HOSTS; Scathophaga stercoraria; DUNG-HABITAT; ENGLAND-; Northumberland, Heddon-on-the-Wall; Records, cow dung Cow-dung was collected on a regular basis and exposed for up to six days before being covered. Insects caught in the collection trap were recorded. These included Scathophaga stercoraria and the braconid wasp Phaenocarpa conspurcator. No specimens of the wasp were collected through the summer. In a further experiment, S. stercoraria pupae were collected from overwintering dung and bred out. Two specimens of P. conspurcator emerged in the spring. Even though there were large numbers of yellow dung-fly present in the summer this wasp appears only to use it as a host in the winter.
