comment:
The natural enemies of Dichomeris marginella (F.) (Nothris marginella), a serious pest of mountain forests, were studied in the Krasnodar region of the Ukraine, USSR, between 1977 and 1980. The most important predators were salticid, thomisid and linyphiid spiders, chrysopid larvae and adults and larvae of the coccinellid Chilocorus bipustulatus (L.). The main parasites, in order of decreasing importance, were the braconid Hormius moniliatus (Nees), the eulophid Necremnus propodealis Boucek, the pteromalid Pteromalus sp. (Habrocytus sp.), the encyrtid Copidosoma sp. and the ichneumonid Scambus elegans (Woldstedt). Hormius moniliatus reduced the abundance of D. marginella by between 28 and 35% during the period 1978-80. Brief information is included on the biology of the main parasites. A single aerial spraying with the bacterial preparation Bitoxibacillin [Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. thuringiensis] at 2% caused 95% larval mortality of the pest within 14 days and showed hardly any adverse effects on the parasite fauna. none
