Keeping females of Exetastes cinctipes at 4°C affects negatively the viability of their progeny or increases the defensive capability of the host larvae, which results in the parasitized larvae being capable of pupating. The time span during which the females are kept at 4°C and the viability of their progeny are inversely correlated. The weight of the pupae produced by parasitized host larvae is approximately a half of that of pupae produced by non-parasitized larvae.
