NOTES ON TAXONOMY
Horstmann 1982 (p.233) considered the application of the name ingratorius by Gravenhorst, 1829 (p.872) as validating the spelling 'ingratorius', using the first revisor principle (Article 24c). Thus he considered Ichneumon ingratorius as an available name with Gravenhorst as the author. (Horstmann, 1982)
In the original description, both spellings, ingratorius and nigratorius appeared in the main description, and in legend to the figure of the wasp, 'ingratorius' was written over the originally printed 'nigratorius'. In 1806 (p.69), Panzer changed the combination to Cryptus nigratorius, thus establishing the spelling as nigratorius by Panzer. (Panzer, 1800)
